Positive Discipline in Everyday Parenting is an approach to parenting that teaches and guides children and young people while encouraging healthy development and participation in the learning process.
The program is based on research into children’s healthy development, effective parenting, and the principles of child rights, and can be used from birth into adulthood.
Positive Discipline is not about punishment. The program is about teaching empathy, self respect and respect for others, and helping children and young people develop their own self-discipline and life skills.
Positive Discipline respects the child and young person as a learner. It is an approach that helps children and young people succeed and positively supports their growth through non violent means.
Positive Discipline has four components
Identifying long-term child rearing goals
Providing warmth and structure
Understanding how children think and feel
Problem-solving
Positive Discipline in Everyday Parenting helps parents learn how to teach children effectively, while respecting their rights.
